John B. Utter

1827-1891

According to the Kent County Atlas of 1876, John B. Utter was a farmer and stock raiser from North Byron who came to Byron in 1843 from Ohio and settled in Section 6.

Thelma Schutte interviewed Hallie Thompson McKenney TerHaar, who told the story of her grandmother from North Byron. Hallie tells how ‘when North Byron started out, it was equal in size to Byron Center. It was just that the Towners built their mills in Byron Center so that got populated more.’

Mr. Utter was 64 when he died. His wife, ____________, was 50.
