Harmon Kellogg was born in Watertown, Connecticut in 1808. In 1812 his parents moved to New York where he remained until 1828. In 1832 he came to Detroit and entered land in this township where he settled 160 acres in Section 3. Of these, 55 acres are cleared and cultivated.

He was married in 1842 to Rhoda Waterbury of New York. Five boys have been born to them in this township – William, Lewis, Marcus, Salmon, and Andrew.

He was 91 when he died. His wife, Rhoda, was 70.
